It’s always great to hear from readers who have been inspired by a project I’ve done!! Sandi, one of my GREAT readers, emailed me some before and after pictures of her fireplace that she whitewashed.
Sandi said her family has just relocated from Chicagoland to the Louisville area and she was decorator for two stores in Chicago. She said she’s missing her job, so she’s been decorating her house to keep the artistic juices going.
I feel your pain, Sandi, we are in an apartment right now because our house sold and we haven’t found/built another one yet so I’m feeling downright depressed with my lack of creative outlet.
Until then, I just get to look at pictures…sigh… speaking of pictures, I love to look at all the lovely whitewashed brick homes out there.
If I had my way we’d do a whitewash house….
Or a smeared mortar house…
This is smeared mortar, too, cool huh?
This is how they said they did this one: “Brick with mortar Hampton brick from Boral Bricks. We used white mortar (and white sand) and had the brick masons “smear” a little mortar on… the bricks with their trowel as they went. We also pressure washed the brick lightly at the end of the job…. Bricks and it is called “hampton”. It is a queen sized brick. The mortar is white…. basic red brick. Really, the look here is achieved through the white mortar and by having a really good brick mason….”
Ever since I white washed my fireplace, I drive around looking at houses and think, “That house would look so cute whitewashed.” ………..I’m obsessed!!
Thinking about doing some German Smear or White wash your brick? I’ve been collecting info on it, you can see what I have so far here:
